Exciting News!!!

School Games

Mrs Bigley is delighted to announce we have been awarded the 'Gold School Games Mark' award for the 2021-2022 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

We would like to thank all staff and coaches, especially Mr Durrant (Football), Robin (Hockey) and Emily (Squash) for all their hard work! We would also like to thank parents for helping us to transport the children to and from events and we would especially like to thank the children for their hard work and efforts achieving this award, we couldn't have done it without all of you !!

We look forward to applying once again in 2023!

Hello, I'm Mrs Bigley

What can I say about me and my role at St Margaret's!

My journey at the school began in 1992 when the first of my 4 children started in reception c;ass. The deputy head at that time discovered that I was a teacher (Middle School trained - PE and Science) and asked if I would coach the netball team. I remember those days fondly: coaching both boys and girls whilst, periodically, pushing my youngest in a buggy.

In 2000, the head asked me if I would like to apply for a post at the school, teaching year 5. After some deliberation, I decided to apply and have been at the school every since. I taught in years 5,4,3,2 and finally in year 6, so I have a good understanding of how the school 'ticks'. I particulary enjoyed teaching year 6 (despite SATS), although it was all consuming, especially at home, when having to prepare work each evening.

Througout my time at St Margaret's I have been responsible for PE and have really enjoyed that part of my work. Seeing the children grow in confidence is so rewarding and, on the occasions where we succeeded in inter-school competitions, the thrill of winning is tremendous - although there have been many occasions when we have had to learn to handle disappointment, which is just as important to their learning and develpment.

I am now the oldest member of staff in the school, approaching retirement, but can still perform a 'rolly polly' and challenge some of the children in a race.  All in all, my time at the school has been a joy for me personally - the children, the staff and the ethos of the school.

Hello I am Mr Durrant a Sports Coach at St Margaret's Primary school.

I love all sports especially Football and Cricket. My passion is well and truly sport!

I  coach sporting teams outside of school at the weekends, I am also a Ipswich Town season ticket holder where I love to go to watch the Town with my family.

In the summer holidays one of my favourite things to do is going to watch Essex county cricket club play at Chelmsford.

In school PE. The children learn a wide range of new  sporting skills, they develop how to work as a team and gain confidence which can be used across the school and in their everyday lives.

At St Margaret's we run before and after school clubs, which are always very popular. football, netball, hockey  and rugby club are to name just a few.

We also have plenty of sporting activities for the children at play and lunchtimes which I lead. They include target games, throwing and catching equipment, skipping challenges  and much more.

I always try to keep PE fun, there is nothing better than seeing the children take part in PE but also do it with a smile on their faces!
